grew up on the north coast of New South Wales. He has so far published eight collections of poetry and, together with the poet Geoffrey Lehmann, two anthologies of Australian poetry. Les Murray has written the following about Gray: ‘He can use an epithet and image to perfection and catch a whole world of sensory understanding in a word or a phrase. Robert Gray is one of the contemporary masters of poetry in English.’ At the moment, Gray is working on his first book of prose. A Dutch translation of the collection Grass Script (Grasschrift) has recently been published by J.M. Meulenhoff.
